England Manager Offers Reassurance to Eberechi Eze Following Champions League Final

Thomas Tuchel, the England manager, has assured that Eberechi Eze will receive support from his teammates following his penalty shootout disappointment in the Champions League final. Eze’s missed spot-kick against Paris Saint-Germain contributed to Arsenal’s challenging defeat, a moment that saw Mikel Arteta offering solace to the player.

Following the intense Champions League finale, four Arsenal players – Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, and Declan Rice – have been granted extended time off to aid in their mental and physical recovery. While Eze’s missed penalty may weigh heavily, Tuchel emphasized that the collective support of the squad will prevent any lingering negative impact.

Tuchel Reminds Arsenal Players of Season’s Success

Tuchel also took the opportunity to remind the Arsenal contingent of their significant achievements throughout the season. He highlighted their successful campaign, which culminated in winning their first title in 22 years, and acknowledged their strong performance against one of Europe’s elite clubs in the Champions League final.

“Of course it’s painful for Ebs, but of course I will take care of it, the group will take care of him, and I think the extra week they had will help a lot,” Tuchel stated. “I’m very happy that they got the title in England. I think that took a lot of weight off their shoulders, and they were aware they did what they could and they were very close in the final.”

Addressing the prospect of needing to lift spirits, Tuchel commented, “I don’t think I will need to lift them. They’ve absolutely had a great season. I’m always happy to do it if I have to, but they should know that a final just comes down to one or two shots in a penalty shootout, which means it cannot be closer. At some point, a winner has to be found.”

He further elaborated on the nature of such losses: “I have lost some finals in a penalty shootout, and it’s the closest way to lose, and it hurts, of course, it hurts a lot to lose big finals. But a penalty means you did everything right; it couldn’t be closer. But it also means you were absolutely on the same level with maybe the best team in the world at the moment.”

Arsenal Players Rejoining England Squad

The four Arsenal players are expected to join the England squad in West Palm Beach, where training is underway at the Palm Beach Gardens Tennis and Pickleball Centre. However, they are not anticipated to participate in England’s initial friendly match against New Zealand, which is scheduled for a considerable distance away in Tampa.

Their reintegration with the wider England team will occur after this first fixture. Tuchel has proactively arranged for them to review video recordings of team meetings held during the week, ensuring they can catch up on important discussions.

Player Activities During Break

Declan Rice has endured a particularly demanding schedule of matches. Meanwhile, Saka recently attended the premiere of a documentary about his career in New York, an event also attended by Eze. Other players have used the break for personal recuperation. Rice shared images of his time off on social media, including moments with actor James Corden.

Tuchel Confident in Players’ Mindset

Tuchel anticipates the Arsenal players will arrive in excellent spirits and confirmed he has already been in contact with some of them to foster a sense of belonging. “I saw pictures and I heard messages already that they’re happy to come, the group is waiting,” Tuchel added. “We’re in good spirits, so this is normally what helps, and I think they’re very well aware of what they achieved this season.”

He concluded by expressing his belief in their positive outlook: “I thought I would just leave them to themselves so they could be proud of what they achieved. We spoke after their title in the Premier League, which was the big target, and I think that was the main target. I could feel that it makes them proud and took a weight off their shoulders, and I think there is no need to be overly disappointed and to carry it into the World Cup campaign. I don’t see that.”
