A truck driver lost his life, and five others were rushed to the hospital following a devastating collision on the Hume Freeway in northeastern Victoria.
Incident Overview
Emergency crews responded to the scene near Harrys Creek Road in Violet Town, approximately 174km northeast of Melbourne, shortly before 1:30pm on Friday. A B-double truck struck a road worker’s vehicle, crossed the median strip, clipped a car, rolled over, and burst into flames.
Casualties and Injuries
The B-double truck driver, who remains unidentified, died at the scene. The road worker truck driver, a man in his 50s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. Two adults and two children from the affected car received hospital checks for observation.
Emergency Response
Responders included the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Victoria Police, State Emergency Service, Fire Rescue Victoria, and Ambulance Victoria. The CFA warned of a hazardous liquid spill near the crash site but confirmed no risk to the surrounding community.
