Former St Kilda and Essendon player Jake Carlisle, 34, faces dismissal as player-coach of Moama in Victoria’s Murray Football League after just one game. Video footage captures him punching a teammate during the season opener against Echuca United on Good Friday.
Shocking On-Field Incident
The hard-nosed defender’s altercation unfolds in Moama’s first match with Carlisle in the dual role. Independent sports reporter Matt Jackson shares the vision on social media, calling it a ‘disgrace.’
‘That’s Jake Carlisle… and this was their first game with him being a player and co-coach,’ Jackson states. ‘He’s decided to smack his own teammate in the face. What’s he doing? This is a disgrace. Even the other teammates, they’re like, ‘What are you doing, mate?’ Echuca United players are in disbelief.’
Club’s Official Statement
Moama president Scott Slater confirms Carlisle’s departure. ‘Official line is that he has moved back to Melbourne, hence why he has been cleared. Nothing more to add, sorry,’ Slater says.
Reports indicate prior disagreements between Carlisle and Moama teammates during his brief tenure. He receives clearance to rejoin Wallan in the Riddell District Football League.
Carlisle’s AFL Background
The swingman plays 151 AFL games, concluding his top-level career at St Kilda in 2021. In 2016, his debut season with the Saints, authorities ban him among 34 Essendon players amid the supplements scandal.
Carlisle has not commented on the incident.
